A Big Day for Alien vs. Predator

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Alien vs. Predator sold about 1.85 million combined DVD and VHS units Tuesday, its first day on store shelves. That means it nearly matched its opening-weekend domestic boxoffice take of $38.3 million during its first 24 hours on retail shelves.

Fox’s comedy First Daughter sold roughly 350,000 combined DVD and VHS units Tuesday, its first day on retail shelves, generating more than $6 million in gross consumer spending. At that pace, the film is on track to top its $9.1 million total domestic boxoffice take by week’s end.

Friday Night Lights was the nation’s bestselling DVD for the week ending Jan. 23. The drama has sold more than 3 million units during its first week in release. “Lights” was the nation’s fourth-best-renting home video, generating an estimated $9.4 million during its first five days on rental shelves.
