Paramount Home Entertainment’s Sahara topped both the sales and the rental charts for the week ending September 4, its first week in stores.
Sahara narrowly outsold another new release, New Line’s Monster-in-Law, by a margin of about 2%. A third newcomer, Buena Vista’s direct-to-video Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, debuted at No. 3 on the preliminary national sales chart.
In rental stores, Sahara generated an estimated $11.7 million, or 17% of its theatrical gross. Again, Monster-in-Law came in second, with estimated rental earnings of $10.8 million.
