Meanwhile, Gotham Chopra, Giselle Parets, Ameeth Sankaran, and Janey Miller work as executive producers alongside Religion of Sports in association. In the opening clips of the trailer, Biles addresses her decision to withdraw from several events during the 2020 Tokyo Games, per The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve always had really good intuition about things. Unfortunately, I felt that way about the Olympics,” she said, possibly referring to the events from four years ago.
Reportedly, Biles, who was struggling with mental health, dropped out of the 2020 Tokyo Games. She later announced she was taking a mental health break due to the circumstances. According to the Economic Times, the Simone Biles Rising trailer shows clips of Biles deciding to miss the 2024 Paris Olympics. Ultimately, the athlete decides to do otherwise, making “one of the most powerful comebacks in history.”
The Simone Biles Netflix docuseries follows the gymnast’s journey and tells her story as she returns to the gym to reclaim her position at the top. In the trailer, Biles claims that she “wanted to quit like 500,000 times” and that she “would have” quit “if it weren’t for my people.”
Biles’ husband, Jonathan Owens, also appears in the Simone Biles Rising documentary trailer. He says, “She’s bounced back, and she’s really opened my eyes.” Meanwhile, the gymnast adds, “I knew it would be a long journey, but to me, it wasn’t done.” Biles claims, “I feel very grateful I get to write my own ending.”
