Kaya Jones, singer and former member of the Pussycat Dolls, is addressing Melissa Schuman’s allegations in the Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter documentary. Jones, who is Nick Carter’s ex-girlfriend, revealed she reached out to Schuman, who has accused the Backstreet Boys singer of rape. The latest Investigation Discovery documentary series looks into the rise and fall of the Carter brothers and sexual assault allegations against Carter.
Melissa Schuman, an actress and former member of girl group Dream, filed a sexual assault lawsuit against Carter. Schuman alleged that Carter raped her in his Santa Monica home in 2003 while they were working as co-stars in a film. She was 18 years old at the time, reported People Magazine. The actress first talked about the alleged incident in 2017 in a blog suit and filed the lawsuit in January 2023. She is now discussing the alleged assault in the docuseries.
Nick Carter’s ex-girlfriend Kaya Jones, who also appeared in the Fallen Idols documentary, has shown support for Melissa Schuman. Jones discussed reaching out to Schuman after the allegations surfaced because she “wanted to hear what Melissa had to say.” Shuman’s father, Jerome, and two other accusers, who have filed lawsuits against Carter, also appeared in the documentary.
ID’s six-part documentary series airs on May 27, May 28, and May 31 and will also stream on Max.
What did Kaya Jones say about Melissa Schuman’s allegations against Nick Carter in Fallen Idols?
According to Entertainment Weekly, Kaya Jones, a Pussycat Dolls member, had interviewed for ID’s Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter. Jones, who dated Nick Carter in the 2000s, described him as a supportive partner and claimed her was never abusive with her. However, she called him a “manipulative” individual who was “never physically violent” but “would punch walls if he got really angry. She added that he “was very good at getting into your head and messing with your head. He liked to control everything.”
The outlet stated that Jones supported when Melissa Schuman publicly accused Carter of sexual assault. The Pussycat Dolls singer said, “I saw a young woman trying to speak and someone who thought he had more power and authority try to shut her up. I tweeted that,” she said in the Fallen Idols documentary.
Kaya Jones recalled tweeting, “Don’t lie Nick. I’m no longer keeping your secrets.” She claimed that “it was my way of saying ‘Don’t push it.’ Because [Nick Carter] knows what I know. He knows why I left him. And so do I believe that something horrific happened to that girl? Yes. Yes I do.” According to People Magazine, the singer had talked about knowing things “that could burn his whole house down” in a Fallen Idol trailer. She said, “I know how evil he can be.”
The outlet reported that Melissa Schuman alleged she was an 18-year-old virgin when Nick Carter raped her. She offered a detailed account of the alleged 2003 incident in Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter. Her father, Jerome, participated in the docuseries alongside two other accuses, who have filed lawsuits against the Backstreet Boys singer.
Entertainment Weekly stated that in Fallen Idols, Kaya Jones claimed Nick Carter used to “get really jealous” when they dated. Talking about one such incident, she said, “He broke my phone once. Like a temper tantrum, like a child.” The singer claimed that Carter “wanted to have his way, and that’s it. I just couldn’t believe how far he went.”
Jones added that Carter once made a disturbing request that changed their relationship. She declined to talk about the alleged request in the documentary but mentioned an incident when he tried to persuade her to watch porn. Jones recalled, “He had his laptop on the bed. He was watching pornography, and he’s showing me this porn.”
The 39-year-old claimed she asked him to “‘turn that off!'” but “he just kept playing different versions of the same thing. Jones said, “It was just like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t wanna see that.'” She revealed he told her, “‘I need you to do this for me.’ And I loved him so much, and I couldn’t do it. And I told him that, I said I couldn’t do it.”
Jones believes what Carter asked her to do “was crossing the line too far.” She claimed, “He became very nasty. Very nasty very quickly. So that for me was like, ‘I can’t be with this person.'” Jones claimed her “heart was broken” after the alleged incident. She added, “I remember when I left him, he said, ‘You wanna hurt me? I’ll effin’ hurt you.'”
Kaya Jones revealed in Fallen Idols that after Melissa Schuman went public with her allegations, she reached out to her via Twitter. People Magazine stated that Jones claimed she gave Schuman her number and the latter eventually called her. Schuman said, “Kaya was so kind to me,” revealing that “we must’ve spoken for hours. I needed someone to tell me that my life wasn’t over.” Nick Carter has filed a countersuit against Schuman, accusing her of attempting to “defame and vilify” him.
Nick Carter’s two other accusers, Shannon “Shay” Ruth and a woman known only as Ashley, also appeared in Fallen Idols. TODAY reported that Ashley revealed that Carter raped her in 2003 in Marathon, Florida, when she was only 15 years old. Ruth claimed she was 17 years old when Carter assaulted her in 2001 during a bus tour. Carter has denied all allegations the three accusers have made against him.
The remaining episodes of Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter documentary air will on ID on May 28 and May 31.
