Aaron Carter was found dead in a bathtub in his California home on November 5, 2022. His housekeeper reportedly found him before 11 a.m. in the morning. People Magazine reported that Aaron Carter was 34 at the time of the death. Through the fame he achieved from his music career when he was only seven, Carter was vocal about his struggles with addiction and mental illness, per another report by People Magazine. His brother and Backstreet Boys band member, Nick Carter, was also an important reason for Carter’s fame.

“Crush on You” was one of Aaron Carter’s earliest and most memorable songs. It was part of his single debut album that he released when he was just nine years old. In the late 1990s, he reportedly toured with Nick Carter and the other Backstreet Boys. His second album, Aaron’s Party (Come Get It), was highly successful and sold three million copies. ABC News noted that it remains his most successful album.

The singer was engaged to Melanie Martin, and together they shared a son, who was born in November 2021. However, Carter reportedly lost custody of his son, Prince, in September 2022, after which he registered into a month-long rehabilitation program to help with his substance abuse addiction. Aaron and Nick Carter’s sister, Leslie Carter, also died from an overdose in 2012. The singer admitted that it was Leslie who taught him to huff, according to Fox 5

Nick Carter’s brother’s death: What did Aaron Carter’s autopsy reveal?

Per CBS News, Aaron Carter’s death ruled as an accidental drowning. He reportedly inhaled a flammable gas, difluoroethane, and took alprazolam, which is an anti-anxiety medication. Difluoroethane is “commonly used as a propellant in air spray cleaners for electronic devices and can induce feelings of euphoria when inhaled.” Drowsiness and sedation are common symptoms of anti-anxiety medication. He reportedly died after becoming “incapacitated” and “submerged underwater,” Northamptonshire Telegraph reported.

Investigators found prescription pills and drug paraphernalia in Aaron Carter’s bedroom. According to People Magazine, Aaron Carter’s ex-fiancée, Melanie Martin, expressed doubts about Carter’s death being an accidental drowning. She claimed that it was unlikely that he would have a T-shirt and a necklace on if he was getting into the bathtub. Aaron and Nick Carter’s mother, Jane Carter, also expressed her doubts regarding the same.

Fox News reported that Jane Carter shared photos from the scene of Aaron Carter’s death on her Facebook page and demanded that a homicide investigation unfold. She claimed that Aaron Carter had been receiving a lot of death threats, and there were many who wished to make his life “miserable.” The photos she shared were reportedly disturbing and covered the bathtub where the singer was found. There were hints of decomposition in the water while clothes and towels were strewn on the floor.
