Recently, the costume Chinese drama Follow Your Heart, starring Song Yi and Luo Yunxi, released its first set of episodes. The anticipated drama has reached several milestones in a short period of time. The drama tells the story of a proud prince and a clever doctor who join hands to eradicate evil and uphold justice. Episode 1 focuses on Nanxing’s (Song Yi) encounter with Tong Sai’Er.
In this episode, a handsome young man enters Yan Nanxing’s workplace, inquiring about a position. The man introduces himself as Liu Ruoqian, a student of the imperial academy. He turns the heads of the female visitors. But to his surprise, Nanxing rejects him as she only employs women in her clinic. He continues to persuade her to hire him and even offers to work for free. Nanxing eventually comes around.
Meanwhile, the imperial inspection office’s Jiang Xinbai (Luo Yunxi) visits the shop. He demands that she don’t hire Ruoqin because he worked at the ghost market previously. But Nanxing doesn’t want to suspect Ruoqian just because his boss is involved in corruption. She also scolds him for always looking down on people. Xinbai decides to get to the bottom of the matter.
Ruoqin wins customers’ hearts within a very short time. After the shop closes, Xinbai summons him to his office to inquire about Ruoqin’s old master. During the investigation, Xinbai learns that his suspect is an honest man working at the ghost market for very low pay. His sincerity wins his heart. He lets him go after Ruoqin gives him important confidential information that would help his investigation. Xinbai comes to know that Shang Bieli, the commander of the Jinwu guards, has been in contact with Ruoqin’s master.
Follow Your Heart Episode 1: Luo Yunxi inspects Song Yi’s new employee
Nanxing is in search of a new informant. She learns about an exclusive teahouse in the capital that only serves nobles. At the establishment, she bumps into Princess Suoluo, who suspects Nanxing’s relationship with her brother.
Nanxing is surprised to find out that the Princess doesn’t seem to know about her brother’s facial blindness. Furthermore, it surprises her that she has Tong Sai Er, a dancer of the ghost market, as her guard.
Tong Er has come to the capital in search of her young master. A fight breaks out between Tong Er and Nanxing when the latter disrespects the Princess. But Bieli of the Jinwu guards arrives on time and breaks off the fight. On the Princess’s order, they are both taken into custody.
Tong Er and Nanxing get close while sharing the same prison cell. Nanxing decides to fix Tong Er’s painting of her master, which she ruined during the fight. Xinbai sends his subordinate to Nanxing out of the prison. Tong Er follows her.
What happens in Follow Your Heart Episode 1’s ending?
Xinbai scolds Nanxing for always getting in trouble. Bieli visits them and questions the Prince why he always protects Nanxing. As Bielli continues to bully Nanxing, Tong Er, unaware of his position, threatens to have him arrested.
Tong Er leaves with Nanxing, who decides to give her shelter for the time being. Tong Er soon gets close to Ruoqian, who promises to fix her portrait. Nanxing learns that Tong Er lives in the mountains and knows about many herbs that are even unknown to her. Her simplicity and eloquence win Nanxing’s heart. Seeing how well she gets along with Ruoqian, Nanxing decides to let her stay with them.
Tong Er warns Nanxing to stay away from the influential man who owns the teahouse. He is in contact with many officials and can get Nanxing in trouble.
