On June 20, 2024, the costume drama The Double, starring Wu Jinyan and Wang Xingyue, released episode 34 on June 20, 2024. In the previous episode, Fang Fei (Wu Jinyan) reunited with her brother, who was held captive by the Princess. Meanwhile, the latest episode 34 focuses on Wu Jinyan’s character outsmarting the Princess.
In this episode, Jiang Yuanbai sends Consort Li an invitation letter to come to Shuran’s new residence. After arriving, Li’s heart breaks when she sees her sister’s condition. Shuran appears to have lost her sanity and is unable to recognize her sister or her husband. Taking on the opportunity, Fang Fei approaches Consort Li and convinces her to team up with her. She points out the similarities between herself and Li and convinces her that Wanning is simply using her as a pawn.
Fang Fei manipulates her into thinking that Wanning will cause her harm once she gets what she wants. And yet, Consort Li doesn’t agree to cooperate.
The Double ep 34: Who proposed to marry Wu Jinyan?
Meanwhile, Princess Wanning wants Shen Yurong to collaborate with Fang Fei once again in front of the Emperor. She suspects that Yurong is too eager to marry Fang Fei. Wanning also reveals that she doesn’t trust Consort Li completely. The performance will give her an opportunity to convince the Emperor to let Yurong and Fang Fei get married.
Elsewhere, Ye Shijie offers to marry Fang Fei to stop the impending union between her and Yurong. Jiang Yuanbai and Shijie agree to tell the Emperor that the two got married in their wombs. Shijie even confesses to having feelings for her. But Fang Fei turns down his offer. On the other hand, Xiao Heng wishes to marry Fang Fei as well.
What happened in The Double Episode 34’s ending?
The episode then shows Xiao Heng successfully retrieving a written confession from the maid who was with Consort Li when she poisoned the previous consort. Fang Fei visits Consort Li with the letter and politely threatens to expose her. Meanwhile, the Emperor gets furious when he hears Xiao Heng’s wish to marry Fang Fei. He makes it clear that he will never approve of their matrimony.
Xiao Heng visits Princess Wanning to convince her to cancel the sanctioned marriage between Yurong and Fang Fei. He shuts her up with the fish Talisman of the Longwu army.
Fang Fei and Yurong perform together at Consort Li’s birthday banquet. Furthermore, Yurong threatens Fang Fei that he will expose Xiao Heng, who is not afraid to sacrifice the state’s safety. Fang Fei initially gets scared, but she quickly recovers and convinces the Emperor to interrogate Xue Zhao, Yorong’s ex-brother-in-law.
After the event, Fang Fei and Xiao Heng meet in private. Fang Fei finally confesses to having feelings for Xiao Heng. The two lovers share a soulful kiss.
