The ongoing fantasy C-drama Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red Moon Pact released its first set of episodes on May 23, 2024. It features Yang Mi and Gong Jun in the lead roles. It is the first segment of the anticipated Fox Spirit Matchmaker Trilogy. The drama follows the story of Tushan Honghong (Yang Mi), a fox spirit who falls in love with Dongfang Yuechu (Gong Jun), a human, after shielding him from his enemy. They hope to build a world where humans and demons can coexist. The first episode focuses on how these two became acquaintances.
The Tushan clan re-established their colony under a divine tree called the grief tree, which absorbed the mystical powers of the earth and heaven after being cast off. The war between the fox clan and the humans started many hundred years ago after the former attacked the latter to demonstrate their powers. The battle lasted for several hundred years and caused unthinkable casualties for both sides. Honghong took it upon herself to put an end to this disaster. She defeated and later killed the chief of her clan, who initially started this conflict.
Unlike the previous leader, Honghong comes to understand humane emotions. She becomes a divine matchmaker and helps lovers overcome obstacles that may threaten their love. Furthermore, she prevents her clan from getting involved in warfare and sets a new rule prohibiting humans from entering the clan’s territory.
One fine day, a human kid named Yuechu enters the Tushan clan’s turf while evading two immortals who want to harm him. Just when they are about to catch him, Honghong and her associates come to his rescue.

Honghong pities the poor child and decides to take him under her wing. The clan’s inhabitants criticize her action, but she insists on keeping him with her.
Honghong reveals that she had made a blood pact with Dongfang Qinli, Yuechu’s mother. She protected Qinli and, in return, made her vow that she would return the favor when Tushan needed her. And this pact will not die with her; her descendants will have to carry it out till the end of time.
Yuechu’s mother had made him promise her that he won’t requite the bloodshed. He grows under the care of the Tushan clan. He trains his powers so he can avenge his parents one day. Fearing that he might leave the clan, Honghong binds him with a mystical thread to help her track him instantly.
Yuechu is all grown up into a fine young man. He has honed his powers over the years and even impresses Honghong. He repeatedly demands Honghong to remove the thread from his body as it prevents him from doing daily activities. Honghong threatens to take his life if he tries to pull any trick on her.
Meanwhile, an evil wolf entity who preys on fairies, manipulates the fox fairies saying that she is secretly keeping a human inside her clan. He tries to turn them against their chief but ultimately fails to do so. The two immortals who initially chased Yuechu still lurk around the Tushan territory to get a hold of him.
The dark energies of the mystical tree starts to affect Honghong. Her health deteriorates with time. On the other hand, Yuechu has learned to control divine attacks. He impresses the deputy chief as he is able to grab her magical strike.
