The ongoing Wuxia C-drama Joy of Life Season 2, starring Zhang Ruoyun, released episode 12 on May 21, 2024. The episode focuses on Fan Xian (Zhang Ruoyun) visiting Wan Er (Li Qin), whom he loves dearly. Meanwhile, Prince Cheng Ze suspects that the wound on Fan Xian’s body was caused by himself. But he finds it puzzling that a trained martial artist would cause harm that could not only end his career but also be life-threatening.
Meanwhile, Wan Er sends Miss Ye to check on Fan Xian after hearing about his ailment. Miss Ye is relieved to hear that he faked the injury. Fan Xian begs Miss Ye to deliver his message to Wan Er. He urges her to ask the princess to meet him, as he truly misses her.
The authorities have started to believe Fan Xian after the news of Prince Hong Chung’s affair with Yuan Meng spread across the capital. But on the contrary, Fan Xian becomes the target of the six ministries, which accuse him of abusing his power for personal gain. Furthermore, rumors have spread that the investigation of the corrupt officials was ordered by Fan Xian. He plans to use his position at the Overwatch Council to take out Prince Cheng Ze and the corrupt officials of the capital. Qi Nian warns him about becoming the public enemy, but Fan Xian is not ready to drop his master plan. Soon after, he leaves to meet Wan Er.

Upon arriving at Wan Er’s residence, Fan Xian finds out from Miss Ye that Prince Cheng Ze is also present there. The emperor wants Miss Ye and Cheng Ze to tie the knot. But the two cannot stand each other. The prince, who initially opposed the idea, is now refusing to resist. Ye does not dare to go against the king who has granted the marriage, but she wishes to kill him. When Fan Xian learns about it, he proposes the idea of poisoning him so no one can suspect them.
Meanwhile, Cheng Ze tries to traduce Fan Xian in front of Wan Er. He briefs her about the moon pavilion incident and also the accusations brought against the Fan family. When Fan Xian hears his coarse words, he is not able to control his anger and attacks him with a wooden armchair.
Then, the guests sit down to share a meal with Wan Er. Fan Xian attempts to make small talk with her. He informs her about his experiences in Northern Qi. Wan Er asks him to care for his health, as he has gotten a lot weaker. Fan Xian and Cheng Ze get into an argument after Cheng Ze tries to stain Fan Xian’s family name. As a reply, Fan Xian accuses him of forcing a noble lady into prostitution.
Meanwhile, Wan Er is smart enough to point out Cheng Ze’s evil tactics. She understands that Cheng Ze has come to her to cause a dispute between her and Fan Xian. He wants her to cancel the marriage agreement with him so he won’t be put in charge of the imperial treasury.
Furthermore, Fan Xian announces that he poisoned Cheng Ze’s wine. He finds it amusing that Cheng Ze starts to panic and struggles to fathom the gravity of the situation. In the end, he presents him with the antidote.
