The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 50th Anniversary Book is being written by The Last Drive-In host Joe Bob Briggs that details the making of Tobe Hooper’s horror classic.

Briggs was speaking on the Mistress Harley podcast (as per JoBlo.com) when he revealed he’d got a deal with Dark Horse to not only reprint his previous book Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In, but a50th anniversary book for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre that will feature insight from cast and crew on what it was like to film the now iconic horror movie one hot Summer in 1973.
Joe Bob is not exactly quiet about his feelings on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, often citing it as his favorite movie of all time. As he says, ”I’ve interviewed every single person who was in the cast or the crew, so this will just be the definitive ‘Making of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre‘ book.” So there can’t be many better equipped to do it.
Joe Bob Briggs gained cult status as the host of Joe Bob’s Drive-in Theater between 1986 and 1996, then going straight onto TNT’s MonsterVision until 2000. He revived the format of his original show somewhat in 2018 with the Shudder series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, which is still ongoing. He’s also an established writer and had a stint on The Daily Show under his real name, John Bloom, and appeared in the sitcom Married With Children.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s 50th anniversary will be in October of this year in the US. It’s a bit looser in Europe, where it premiered theatrically in various countries between 1975 and 1978.
