Kaiju No. 8 episode 8 recap: Kafka vs. Hoshina takes center stage
Kaiju No. 8 episode 8, “Welcome to the Defense Force,” begins with Kafka’s battle with Captain Hoshina. Naturally, despite being able to fight back, Kafka only dodges the Captain’s attacks instead of attacking back.
However, Hoshina’s unabating attacks corner Kafka, so he breaks Hoshina’s blade and escapes the scene. Upset that he let his enemy go, Hoshina informs Mina Ashiro about the situation while Kafka returns to Kikoru.
After a brief discussion about the humanoid Kaiju, Kaiju No. 9, the episode shows Ichikawa and Furuhashi in the hospital where Kafka and Kikoru visit them.
The combatants’ successful first mission calls for celebration. The episode reveals Haruichi’s influential background, as he orders an expensive chef to cook for the occasion. Kikoru also tells Kafka that his family is richer than her family.
Later, the officers begin to fight as they pick on one another’s skills and techniques on the battleground. However, Hoshina stops the commotion to announce that Kafka’s skills have impressed him and that he is being promoted to a Defense Force officer.
Kafka meets Mina the following day, and his day ends with him observing Hoshina training alone in a room. Witnessing Hoshina’s skillful moves flusters Kafka, as he realizes that those moves will be used against him if he ever appears in front of Hoshina in his Kaiju form again.
