In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 257, Gege Akutami reveals the long-awaited truth behind Itadori Yuji’s origins. His ancestry unravels mysteries, including his potential relationship with Sukuna. But, is Itadori related to Sukuna, the King of Curses? Read to find out.
Sukuna and Yuji’s history explored
In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 257, “Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown, Part 29,” before Sukuna and Yuji’s arduous fight continues, the issue reveals that Uraume had asked Sukuna about Yuji. She had asked who he was and Sukuna replied that he was Kenjaku’s child.
To explain further, the King of Curses adds that he shared his mother’s womb with a twin brother. He thought of eating the twin only for Kenjaku to wield the twin and that’s how Jin Itadori was born.
Moreover, Kenjaku used a woman’s body to give birth to Yuji with Jin Itadori. As such, Jin Itadori, who was the reincarnation of Sukuna’s twin brother, became Yuji’s father. Hence, Sukuna is, in a way, and how fans describe it, Yuji’s uncle.
The complexity amplifies when it is revealed that Kenjaku had planted his finger in Yuji’s body during his birth. He did so to ensure that Yuji could be his vessel and partake in the Culling Game.
Despite the intricate plot twists, Uraume thought that Yuji’s relation to Sukuna meant that he had the ability to at least face Sukuna as an equal if not overpower him.
The chapter later returns to the present and continues the exchange of Black Flashes between Yuji and Sukuna. However, it leaves the question of whether the complicated relationship between Yuji and Sukuna has a greater significance than the issue revealed.
Nevertheless, this helps the fandom understand why Yuji and Sukuna look similar and how Sukuna’s blood flows through Yuji. More developments are likely on the way and they might even see Yuji surpassing Sukuna’s strength, if Gege allows it.
