The Apothecary Diaries episode 21 recap
In The Apothecary Diaries episode 21, Maomao, now working in the rear palace, visits Guen, whom she calls the “quack doctor.” There, she helps him clean the office, after which the doctor talks about his family business, which deals with selling paper.
When he expresses his concern over the family’s loss in the business, Maomao subtly offers advice to help his family overcome the problem. Later, Lihaku summons Maomao to seek her suggestion to buy out a courtesan. Maomao, being aware of who the courtesan was, explains that he would need as much as 10,000 silver in cash for him to buy out Pairin successfully.
Maomao also asks Lihaku to strip his clothes so that she can analyze his physical appeal. However, Jinshi arrives at the spot, feeling envious as he misconstrues the situation. However, once Maomao explained the matter to him, he offered 20,000 silver to Lihaku.
Lihaku, though naturally surprised at the offer, politely declines it. He expresses that Pairin deserves to be the wife of a true man who could pay his money to buy out her contract. The light-hearted tone of the episode soon turns gloomy as Maomao learns that a man has been visiting the Verdigris House. Speculating that it is nobody but Lakan, Maomao shudders at the thought, showcasing that she hates the idea of meeting her biological father.
