The Apothecary Diaries episode 20 recap
The Apothecary Diaries episode 20 revolved around Suirei’s master plan and Maomao’s deductive skills. Once Maomao woke up in Jinshi’s room after the near-death experience at the ceremonial hall, Jinshi, Gaoshun, and Basen summoned her to explain her investigation.
Later, Lihaku revealed that Suirei was the conspirator, and she committed suicide once she was found out. Though this news shocked Maomao, she didn’t seem convinced by the speculation that she was the sole perpetrator. So, Jinshi and Gaoshun took Maomao to the morgue, where Suirei’s corpse was kept.
Upon investigating the doctor who examined Suirei, Maomao found out that Suirei was not dead. If she were alive, the thought of meeting the mastermind amused Maomao. As the episode came to a close, Jinshi reminisced about his life as Gaoshun accompanied him. The episode revealed that Jinshi had been pretending to be the 24-year-old eunuch while, in reality, he was 19 years old and closely related to the emperor.
Finally, Jinshi sent Maomao to the rear palace to tend to pregnant Gyokuyou. The protagonist learned that the emperor was a good man who cared about the concubines and his daughter.
