In the previous episode of The Good Place, Chidi initiated a study into near-death experiences and their effect on morality. This brought Eleanor, Jason, Tahani, and Trevor together to participate. What does this next installment have in store? Let’s find out as we recap The Good Place season 3 episode 2 ‘The Brainy Bunch!’
Infiltration
Janet told Michael about Trevor’s infiltration of the study. He was very upset about it. Trevor handed out lemon bars to the group, but only Eleanor took one. Chidi explained the study to Simone, while Tahani asked about proper clothing to wear in an MRI machine. Michael arrived on Earth and confronted Trevor, before Trevor revealed that he was here on Shawn’s orders. Trevor also revealed his plan to Michael and the two exchanged barbs over their outfits. After the first wave of MRIs, Eleanor asked Chidi about continuing their one-on-one lessons. Chidi refused and Eleanor expressed her disgust at the other members of the group. Trevor volunteered to take the group out for dinner.
America
Trevor took the group to a restaurant styled after the United States. The group was seated at the Arizona table, after being declined the Florida table, and its pitch-perfect swamp stench. Trevor then handed out sweatshirts he had made of the group, they were stylized after The Brady Bunch. Janet had been sent to Earth and was posing as their waitress for the day. Jnet had some trouble adjusting to normal human behavior. Trevor pitched the idea of everyone sharing a house and Jason immediately got on board with the idea. Everyone else was resistant. Trevor got Jason and Tahani to participate in a drinking game, while Eleanor and Chidi privately discussed the ethics of being friends with people you were studying. Chidi left the group as did Eleanor. Jason and Tahani left together and Trevor celebrated his victory over Michael.
Professionalism
Chidi resolved to keep things professional between himself and the subjects of the study. Tahani arrived and handed out letters of apology for her behavior the previous night. Trevor informed the group that Eleanor would not be attending the study any more. Chidi, after some goading from Simone, went to Eleanor’s hotel room and convinced her to return to the study. Eleanor was hesitant at first, but she agreed to continue the study for at least 3 more months.
Trevor was confronted by Michael and Janet in the restroom, until the Doorman arrived and called all of three of them back to talk to the Judge. The Judge explained that Michael had many mistakes to make up for. The Judge banished Trevor to the Void and told Michael that he would not be allowed to monitor the humans any more. At that moment, Janet’s powers returned and all of the items that she attempted to summon on Earth appeared and blocked the path between her, Michael and the Judge. Janet and Michael escaped back to Earth.
