Fox Developing Home Alone-Inspired Stoner Comedy Stoned Alone

Deadline reports that Fox is doing a surprising remix of one of their highest grossing original comedies, Home Alone. The outlet reveals that Ryan Reynolds is attached to produce and potentially appear in Stoned Alone, a film where a “weed growing loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip.”

They further note that in the film “he makes the best of things by getting high. Paranoia sets in and he believes he hears someone break into his house. Turns out thieves have broken in. Fully stoned and fueled by paranoia, he tries to thwart the thieves and defend his castle.”

Augustine Frizzell, the filmmaker behind the A24 drama Never Goin’ Back, is set to direct the comedy from a script by Gentlemen Lobsters and The Package screenwriters Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider. The Package is set to arrive exclusively on Netflix August 10.

The original Home Alone starring Macaulay Culkin was released in 1990 and grossed $476.6 million at the time, the equivalent of $896.46 million in today’s dollars. It spawned two sequels and became a pop culture phenomena.

Fox continues to stay in the Ryan Reynolds business as well, even with the impending Disney Company acquisition. The studio is developing a reboot of the board game based Clue with Reynolds attached to star as well as continuing development on a Deadpool 3 and X-Force feature films. Reynold’s most recent release Deadpool 2 brought in $733 at the global box office, their highest grossing release since the first Deadpool in 2016.
