Julianne Moore cast in one of the lead roles in the After the Wedding Remake
Academy Award winner Julianne Moore (Still Alice) will be starring in the remake of Susanne Bier’s Academy Award-nominated Danish drama After the Wedding, which was nominated for the best foreign-language Oscar in 2007 and stars Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) and Sidse Babett Knudsen (Westworld).
Writer and director Bart Freundlich (Wolves, The Rebound) has reimagined the film with the two lead roles as women in order to create a story of motherhood and family. After the Wedding will take place in and around New York.
The film will be produced by Joel Michaels (Terminator Salvation) and Silvio Muraglia (Black Butterfly) through Paradox Studios, which is also financing the project. The two producers expressed that they are “overjoyed to have Bart as a partner in this project that has been a long time labour of love. He’s reimagined a brilliant retelling of Susanne Bier’s acclaimed and potent drama. We are further blessed to be working with Julianne Moore who remarkable talent brings depth and sincerity to every role she portrays.”
Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder from Cornerstone Films said that the director “has written an emotional powerhouse of a screenplay. It’s compelling and heart-breaking but incredibly human. It’s a stand out piece and we are thrilled to be introducing it to buyers at Berlin.”
Production on After the Wedding will begin this spring.
