ComingSoon.net is once again in Las Vegas for the annual exhibitor’s convention known as CinemaCon, taking place at Caesar’s Palace from April 23 through April 26. We got here a bit early and walked around to get the lay of the land–this is only the second year that the convention is at Caesar’s and going by “CinemaCon” (having formerly been “ShoWest”)–and we spotted a number of new poster images, many for movies that have yet to release any marketing, although a good bunch of them are merely teasers.
But before we get to the new posters, we have to share the most impressive display on the CinemaCon floor, which is this enormous battleship-shaped combo advertisement both for Peter Berg’s Battleship and for Coke Zero:
Screen Gems has a new poster for Resident Evil: Retribution based on the “Think Global. Kill Local.” banners, this one featuring Milla Jovovich’s Alice:
Universal has brought a very simple first teaser for Carl Rinsch’s 47 Ronin, starring Keanu Reeves, essentially a logo with a couple of green wisps that we believe represents some of the magic in the film.
At least that’s more impressive than their first teaser poster for Judd Apatow’s This is 40, which doesn’t even seem to be trying very hard:
Their first teaser poster for Tom (The King’s Speech) Hooper’s musical Les Miserables is just as simple, recycling an image from the Broadway musical and simply listing the cast:
Sony Pictures Classics took a similarly simple approach for the poster for Woody Allen’s next movie To Rome With Love – subtle image and list the cast. What more do you need?
The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence is front and center in the first poster for Relativity Media’s horror flick House at the End of the Street:
Scott Derrickson’s found footage horror movie Sinister, starring Ethan Hawke, has a far more effective and creepy poster on display as well:
We really like what CBS Films did for their first poster image for Martin McDonagh’s Seven Psychopaths, not only just listing the cast but counting them.
