Just days after Bill Condon revealed that production on the upcoming Bride of Frankenstein remake would begin February 1, 2018, Deadline brings word that the film has officially been postponed by Universal as rewrites on the script continue from screenwriter David Koepp.
“After thoughtful consideration, Universal Pictures and director Bill Condon have decided to postpone Bride of Frankenstein,” the studio said in a statement. “None of us want to move too quickly to meet a release date when we know this special movie needs more time to come together. Bill is a director whose enormous talent has been proven time and again, and we all look forward to continuing to work on this film together.”
Condon revealed in an interview earlier this week with Forbes that the film would in a way function like what a sequel to the original The Bride of Frankenstein would have been like, saying:
“The Bride is a character who appears in the last five minutes and then is destroyed, so it’s a way to almost continue the movie that you imagine the movie he might have made the third Frankenstein movie but in 2018.”
Universal has confirmed that the film will not make its previously-set February 14, 2019 release date, a slot where the studio will instead release an untitled Blumhouse horror film.
The outlet also reports that Javier Bardem and Angelina Jolie remain in negotiations to play the pair of monsters in the film.
