James Wan appears likely to direct the upcoming New Line horror film The Conjuring, Variety reports.
Though previously reported for development through Summit Entertainment, New Line has instead taken the rights to the project and will have Peter Safran and Tony DeRose-Grund producing.
From sibling scribes Chad and Carey Hayes (Whiteout), The Conjuring is based on the true story of the Perron family and their supernatural encounters in their Rhode Island home. Ed and Lorraine Warren, experts in paranormal activities, investigated and the alleged occurences, inspiring both The Amityville Horror and The Haunting in Connecticut.
