Legendary Filipino action star celebrated on new website.
Short in stature but towering in talent and legendary in cult appeal, diminutive action film start Ernesto de la Cruz is best known to his fans as the inimitable Weng Weng, the 2 ft, 9 inches tall micro-force of nature best known for his role as Agent 00 from the 1981 Filipino Bond spoof FOR Y’UR HEIGHT ONLY.
And though we lost Weng Weng in 1992, his work lives on, most prominently via the passion of Australian strange cinema advocate, blogger and filmmaker Andrew Leavold. Leavold’s connection with the actor was first forged with his fascinating documentary THE SEARCH FOR WENG WENG. Part of that picture’s Kickstarter campaign offered Weng Weng bobbleheads to select supporters. This led to a meeting with artist Mark Nichols, who was enthralled by Leavold’s quest and created the bobblehead dolls he needed.
Now, Nichols has taken his own interest in the unique world of Weng Weng to another level with his “all things Weng Weng” website www.WengWengForever.com, a site run by both Nichols and Leavold to celebrate the cult surrounding the memory of Weng Weng, offering those aforementioned Bobbleheads and other neat merch and whose aim is to create a one-stop-shop community for fans of the dearly departed ass-kicker.
If you’re a fan of the man or want to be one, visit the official WengWengForever site and explore. More content and fun stuff will be added over the coming months.
