Official Trailer: High School Horror in Blumhouse’s The Gallows

A doomed theatre production provides a high school haunting in the moody, Nirvana-covering new trailer for the Blumhouse summer horror, The Gallows

Out July 10th is The Gallows, from Blumhouse and directors Travis Cluff & Chris Lofing. In the film, “twenty years after an accident caused the death of the lead actor during a high school play, students at the same small town school resurrect the failed stage production in a misguided attempt to honor the anniversary of the tragedy—but ultimately find out that some things are better left alone.” It’s interesting the film describes an attempt to honor the production, as the trailer looks more like late night shenanigans in an empty high school auditorium.

Still, empty schools are inherently eerie. Will Cluff & Lofing use it to maximum effect? It’s hard to tell once you realize the clip is backed by an exceptionally moody cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” The first teaser (below), an extended scene from the film held big promise, however.
