The July 19th release features Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, a pair of paranormal investigators tasked with helping the Perrons, a family terrorized by a demonic force in their new home. And that’s only one of many real-life Warren files.
Just the other week, writers Chad and Carey Hayes revealed their interest in having the sequel explore an incident that took place in the ’70s involving two sisters in Enfield, England who were allegedly possessed.
While discussing his other James Wan collaboration Insidious: Chapter 2, Wilson confirmed the Enfield story’s potential, which you can read after the jump.
“Chad and Carey, the writers, they sort of let this cat out of the bag, so I’m just confirming their gossip, which is they were interested in a story in London, overseas, of some sisters that were possessed. I don’t know, I haven’t seen the script.”
But of course nothing is set in stone. The Demonologist: The Extraordinary Career of Ed and Lorraine Warren is filled with details on a number of the Warrens’ efforts, but some of the more memorable material focuses on how Ed and Lorraine discovered their abilities and each other. After proposing that route for the sequel, but noting that that could not include Wilson and Farmiga, Wilson laughed and joked, “What are you saying I can’t play young?”
Continuing to speculate on the file for the sequel, Wilson added, “I can imagine it won’t be Amityville.” Despite the Hayes’ interest in that Enfield, England case, it still seemed like a possibility that The Conjuring 2 could focus on one of the Warrens’ most famous cases, the very familiar hauntings in Amityville. After questioning why Wilson seemed adamant that Amityville was not an option even though the first film hints that that could come next, he became more cryptic and playful, saying, “Well, maybe they’ll drop more hints of that. Or maybe it will be Amityville and I’m completely lying.”
Hopefully The Conjuring 2 will progress sooner rather than later and we’ll get additional details soon. In the meantime, look for more with the cast of Insidious: Chapter 2 before it opens on Friday, September 13.
