Their re-imagining of Frankenstein has hit a road block, however.
In this report, Vulture states the studio behind the film – 20th Century Fox – isn’t keen on the proposed $80 million budget, forcing Levy to start looking at other movies to direct next.
Frankenstein is just one of the many films in Hollywood “on hold” now over budgetary issues. Studios are making a conscious effort to cut back on costs and some films are taking a hit because that (Akira is another example).
Keep in mind, as well, that Fox is currently enjoying the success of Chronicle, a film shot on a very small budget but grossed $22 million its opening weekend, so it is probably hoping to apply that same idea to other productions.
Landis’ Frankenstein is an update of the classic tale, however, it said to be a “radical re-telling.”
