After two weeks of Harry Potter at the top, Disney’s Tangled took over the box office with an estimated $21.5 million this weekend. The animated hit, featuring the voices of Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi and Donna Murphy, has earned $96.5 million domestically after two weeks. Internationally, Tangled added $26 million for a two-week total of $45.8 million. The movie has reached $142.3 million worldwide.
In second place, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (Warner Bros.) added $16.7 million its third weekend to take its domestic total to $244.2 million. The movie brought in another $54.4 million overseas for a foreign total of $469.1 million and worldwide sum of $713.3 million.
The race for third and fourth was too close to call, as both Screen Gems’ Burlesque and Fox’s Unstoppable earned about $6.1 million. The former has brought in $27 million after two weeks and the latter stands at $68.9 million after four weeks.
Fox’s Love and Other Drugs rounded out the top five with $5.7 million. The film has earned $22.6 million in two weeks.
Moviegoers were not very interested in the only new wide release, Relativity Media’s The Warrior’s Way. The fantasy action film, starring Dong-gun Jang, Kate Bosworth, Geoffrey Rush and Danny Huston, brought in just $3.1 million from 1,622 theaters, an average of $1,881 per theater.
Opening in limited release, the Darren Aronofsky-directed Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey and Winona Ryder, earned an impressive $1.4 million from only 18 theaters. That’s an average of $77,444 per theater! Also, I Love You Phillip Morris, with Jim Carrey, Ewan McGregor and Leslie Mann, took in $113,000 from six theaters.
