Key player no longer involved
The gates of Hell been slammed shut temporarily. Three-time Oscar winner and visual effects artist Randall William Cook (The Lord of the Rings) gave me the lowdown on The Gate: 20 Years Later, a sequel to the 1987 film he was announced to direct for H20 Motion Pictures.
When I asked him how things were progressing, Cook replied that he was no longer involved.
“The script was terrible, it needed work,” he told me at last night’s Fright Night reunion screening in Los Angeles. From what he told me, it sounded like there was a back-and-forth creative conflict with Cook aiming for a higher quality screenplay he just couldn’t get. So he left.
Where this leaves the new Gate entry is anyone’s guess. H20 Motion Pictures could replace Cook, however, the whole appeal of a new film was to see what this lauded FX vet could do with the property…wasn’t it?
