Kyle Gass Apologizes Over Trump Assassination Joke After Jack Black Issues Statement

Kyle Gass has taken to social media to apologize for remarks that he made about the attempted assassination attempt on Donald Trump this past week that led to the cancellation of Tenacious D’s remaining tour dates.

In a short statement on Instagram, Gass called his remark “highly inappropriate, dangerous, and a terrible mistake.” The remark came during the band’s performance on July 14 in Australia. During a surprise moment when Jack Black brought out a cake to celebrate Gass’ 64th birthday, Gass was asked to make a wish and said, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” as he blew out the candles.

What did Kyle Gass say in his apology?

“The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake,” Gass’ statement reads. “I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.”

As a result of the remark, Jack Black took to social media to condemn what Gass did and noted the current tour Tenacious D was on would be canceled, and he would be pausing any “future creative plans” with Gass.

“I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form. After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding,” said Black.
