Practicing a “zen” approach to horror
Russell Mulcahy (Resident Evil: Extinction) currently has his hands tied with a sequel to Universal’s The Scorpion King, but when that’s over, it sounds like he’s moving on to bloodsuckers.
Variety reports he will helm Zen in the Art of Slaying Vampires (the most unfortunate title since The Irrefutable Truth About Demons), an adaptation of Steven-Elliot Altman’s novel, the first in a series. What attracted Mulcahy to the project, says the outlet, was the “pathos” of the project’s leads. The hero, in this case, is a vampire who is able to repress his dark side through Zen meditation. “A struggle for his soul ensues between the bloodsuckers and the zen masters.”
Money for the flick is being fronted by Capitol Films’ David Bergstein. CP Productions (the company who just announced a Joust film) is assisting in the producing duties. Altman will adapt his own novel for the screen.
