Kurt Russell Eyed for Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Is Kurt Russell headed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2?

Although we still don’t know who the Marvel character will be, the actor playing father to Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord may have just been revealed. According to The Wrap, James Gunn is keen on casting none other than Kurt Russell in the mystery role! Russell, who stars in this month’s The Hateful Eight, is no stranger to science fiction, having headlined notable genre entries such as John Carpenter’s The Thing and Roland Emmerich’s Stargate.

“It’s definitely not the character who it is in the comics,” Gunn told Empire last year, knocking Spartoi emperor J’son out of the running. “I’ll say that much… There have been a lot of documents passed around about who Peter Quill’s father is between a select two or three of us. That’s been part of the plan since the beginning, that’s something I had to work out before we shot the screenplay. We wanted to make sure Yondu’s place in everything made sense and it does, so it’s all very specific stuff.”

According to the initial report, Kurt Russell’s connection to the sequel is somewhat nascent. The actor has not yet read the screenplay nor has he officially met with Marvel. If all goes according to plan, however, that should be happening very soon. Check back here for any updates as they become available.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 cast will once again feature Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as unlikely heroes who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions.
