First up we have Rockwell discussing the remake of 1982’s Poltergeist, which has been reimagined by director Gil Kenan (Monster House) as revolving around a modern day ghost hunter show titled “Haunted House Cleaners,” hosted by Jared Harris’ character. Apparently the central figure this time around will be the one originally called Robbie, as played by Oliver Robins, who is now called Griffin and is played by Kyle Catlett (The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet).
“The 10-year-old boy is really the protagonist this time,” Rockwell confirms. “JoBeth Williams was the protagonist for the most part in the first one and now the kid, it’s really through his point-of-view. So it’s more of a kids’ movie so I don’t know if it’s gonna be like rated-R scary.”
As with another 20th Century Fox summer movie, Fantastic Four, we have yet to get a good look at the new Poltergeist, which suggests there may be problems behind the scenes. Adding a little fuel to that fire is Rockwell, who is candid about not being entirely sure how the film turned out. A bad omen?
“I’ve seen a little in looping,” Rockwell continues. “I hope it’s good. I really don’t know. I really wish I could tell you. I’m praying that it’s – I mean, it’s gonna be hard to live up to the first one. The first one’s pretty damn good. This one’s gonna be in 3D though, I can tell you that. It’s not like ‘Conjuring’ type of scary. You know, it’s a different kind of movie. It’s more of an adventure. It’s essentially a child abduction film when you come down to it. I mean, the original ‘Poltergeist’ is too.”
Poltergeist is due out on July 24.
“Just working on the script still,” Form said. “Hoping to make that movie this year and Brad, I’m gonna confirm that Jason is in the movie. There was a rumor out there that Jason was not in it…”
“Jason is in the movie, that is confirmed,” said Fuller.
With Jason Voorhees returning to make cold cuts out of horny teens, horror fans can rest easy come the film’s release on November 13. This new, currently untitled Friday the 13th will be directed by David Bruckner (V/H/S).
