Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the pair behind this year’s big screen hits 22 Jump Street and The LEGO Movie, are set to debut their new series, “The Last Man on Earth,” on FOX in March. Although the show stars Will Forte as the title protagonist, The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that “Mad Men” and X-Men: First Class star January Jones has joined the cast as a series regular. Also set to appear in some capacity are Kristen Schaal (Toy Story 3, “30 Rock”), Mel Rodriguez (“Getting On, “Enlisted”) and Cleopatra Coleman (Step Up Revolution, “Wicked Science”).
A post-apocalyptic comedy, “The Last Man on Earth” premieres with a special one-hour event of back-to-back episodes Sunday, March 1 at 9:00pm. It will then move into its regular time period the following week on Sunday, March 8 at 9:30pm. Executive-produced, created by and starring Forte (Nebraska, “Saturday Night Live”), and executive-produced and directed by Lord and Miller, the single-camera comedy chronicles the life and adventures of an average guy – and humanity’s last hope – who discovers what life is like when no one is telling you what you can and cannot do.
At this time, it is unclear whether or not any of these new actors will appear outside of pre-apocalypse flashback sequences. Jones’ role is said to be that of Melissa, described as having a “strong independent spirit” as well as “warmth, strength, and a no-nonsense attitude.”
