The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke teased what’s next for Soldier Boy in Season 5 after it was confirmed that Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles would be reprising the fan-favorite superhero in the final season.
This comes after Ackles briefly appeared at the end of The Boys Season 4 finale after Homelander finally finds out about his father’s whereabouts from the newly-elected President Calhoun. In addition to The Boys Season 5, Ackles’ Soldier Boy is also set to return in his very own prequel series titled Vought Rising, which is currently in development.
What is Soldier Boy’s main objective in The Boys Season 5?
During a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Kripke confirmed that Soldier Boy’s main objective in The Boys Season 5 will be killing Butcher. He also teased that fans will get to see more of the complicated father-son dynamic between Soldier and Homelander.
“Soldier Boy is really driven to kill Butcher after Butcher betrayed him in season 3,” Kripke said. “So he’s just an excellent antagonist, to switch sides and basically, you know, to be with the supes.”
He added, “You know, what we realized was we really hadn’t explored the father-son relationship much between Homelander and Soldier Boy. There’s a lot of material there, how soldier boy feels about Homelander, how Homelander feels about his dad, and so we really wanted to dig into that relationship.”
The Boys series is created and executive produced by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, based on the comic book series created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The series currently stars Karl Urban, Antony Star, Jack Quaid, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, Claudia Doumit, Colby Minifie, Simon Pegg, Cameron Crovetti, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Valorie Curry, Susan Heyward and more.
