Former WWE Superstar Edge, now known as Adam Copeland, had a huge match this past weekend at AEW Double or Nothing. Copeland, who is the current TNT Champion, put his title on the line against Malakai Black in a Barbwire Steel Cage Match.
Copeland, who defeated Black in the match, suffered a devastating injury. During the match, Copeland climbed to the top of the stage intending to execute an elbow drop on Black through a table wrapped in barbed wire, but he landed on his feet before falling onto Malakai. Following this, Copeland announced that he suffered a broken tibia and required surgery due to this spot.
Following the devastating injury to former WWE superstar Edge, reports have emerged about backstage reactions among talents in WWE and AEW. According to PWInsider, there is sadness among talent and staff in the AEW backstage. Copeland, who has been a great mentor since his arrival in the promotion, will now be sidelined for a couple of months due to his injury. Sources believe there will be a significant void behind the scenes as Copeland will have to vacate the TNT Championship.
PWInsider also circulated another report about the response of WWE talent backstage to Adam Copeland’s injury. Rumors emerged backstage at WWE RAW suggesting that former WWE Superstar Edge had broken his foot after his match at AEW Double or Nothing.
AEW President Tony Khan voices concern for Adam Copeland’s health
Following the dangerous jump in the steel cage match, AEW President Tony Khan voiced his concern for Adam Copeland. During the AEW Double or Nothing post-show press conference, Khan said he had kept his fingers crossed and hoped that Copeland was okay.
He stated, “We are checking him out. That was an amazing barbed wire cage match. He has been so awesome for us since he came in, and I’m knocking on all the wood and crossing all my fingers and toes that he is okay. Adam Copeland arriving in AEW came at the perfect time for us. What a run he is having. I was hoping he would be sitting here with Tanahashi-san and myself right now. He’s really beat up. I’ll cross my fingers and hope that he’s okay. That would be the best thing for AEW.”
Now that AEW star Adam Copeland has confirmed the reports of his injury. He will have to vacate the TNT Championship, which he won a couple of months ago against Christian Cage.
