The Young Sheldon Season 7 finale had fans in tears, but many are wondering about one major thing — did Leonard die? With nostalgia hitting from both the show’s early days as well as from The Big Bang Theory, the final episode of Young Sheldon ends with “Walk of Life” by Dire Straits playing as Sheldon walks into the Caltech campus. It is just like how the first episode of the series started with the same song while a younger Sheldon operates his toy train. Yet, the new heartbreaking fan-theory involving Leonard makes things a little sadder.

Did Leonard die after The Big Bang Theory or is he alive?

It is uncertain whether Leonard Hofstadter from The Big Bang Theory is dead or alive in the future. Meanwhile, Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik appear as adult Sheldon and Amy, respectively, who are married with two kids.

Interestingly, in the final episode, Sheldon and Amy only mention Penny and not Leonard. He tells his wife, “I told you we never should have let Penny babysit.” Also, Sheldon’s son’s name, Leonard, seems to be a tribute to his best friend. Both these occurrences strongly point towards his friend passing away after the events of The Big Bang Theory.

However, there is no confirmation that this theory is true, as it only strongly suggests that Leonard might be dead. It is also uncertain whether a corroboration of the event will come in the future. This is because the only known show arriving next is a Young Sheldon spin-off series titled Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage.

Why isn’t Leonard mentioned in Young Sheldon?

The absence of any mention of Leonard in Young Sheldon seems quite strange and possibly has a good reason.

While it directs fans toward the probable death of Leonard Hofstadter, they cannot know for sure as of now. Creators Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro might have something bigger planned for the future, and this might be the foundation on which it might be based. That said, all one can do is assume and theorize until the showrunners reveal what exactly is going on.
