Srikanth Box Office Collection Day 1: Rajkummar Rao’s Film to Start Off Slow

The much-anticipated biopic Srikanth, starring Rajkummar Rao, made its debut in theaters on May 10, 2024. However, it opened to a slower-than-expected start at the box office. The film chronicles the life of visually impaired entrepreneur Srikanth Bolla. According to reports, the film is expected to garner an estimated $200,000 on its first day.

Directed by Tushar Hiranandani, Srikanth is the only Hindi release this week, facing minimal competition from other Hindi films. This theoretically means the film should have a clear path at the box office. However, it must still contend with the Hollywood blockbuster Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes. Although this film caters to a different audience, it still occupies a significant share of cinema screens as well as the interest of the audience.

Srikanth box office collection: How much will the movie earn?

Advance bookings showed promise, with over 15,000 tickets sold prior to the release. Despite these numbers, the turnout on the opening day was less robust than expected. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Srikanth has only garnered $67,000 as of now.

In Srikanth, Rajkummar Rao plays the titular role of Srikanth Bolla, who, despite his visual impairment, rose from a small village in India to become the first visually impaired student in Management Science at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology and later a successful industrialist. The film also stars Jyothika, Alaya F, and Sharad Kelkar in pivotal roles.

In a recent interview, Rajkummar Rao shared his connection with his character, citing similarities in their humble beginnings and the struggles they faced in achieving their dreams. This personal connection, however, seems yet to translate into box office success.

Industry analysts suggest that the film’s performance could pick up over the weekend, relying on positive word-of-mouth from viewers inspired by the story. The film’s uplifting narrative and strong performances are expected to draw more audiences, particularly those interested in biographical dramas that showcase triumph over adversity.
