AEW President Tony Khan recently addressed the status of former AEW World Champion MJF with the promotion. MJF, who held the longest-reigning world championship in AEW for 406 days, lost his title at AEW World’s End in December. Since losing his championship, MJF hasn’t appeared on any All Elite Wrestling programs.
The promotion recently hosted the AEW new pay-per-view, Dynasty, in St. Louis at the Chaifetz Arena. During the post-show press conferences, Tony Khan was asked about MJF’s status with the promotion.
Khan stated, “MJF, one of the biggest stars in AEW, we haven’t seen him in recent months, and I would love to get MJF back here soon, sooner than later, really soon… Everything’s going so great for AEW right now, and that would be something that would add a lot. That’d be awesome to have MJF back, and soon. I would love that.”
While MJF hasn’t returned yet, his former best friend Adam Cole, who betrayed him at AEW World’s End, has returned. Cole returned after Roderick Strong retained his AEW International Championship, joining him with his Undisputed Kingdom faction.
Cole also stared at his faction member, Wardlow. It seems like Cole is about to attack Wardlow, who lost his world title match against Samoa Joe a few weeks ago on an episode of Dynamite.
MJF recently met with AEW officials backstage
Last month, AEW hosted a special edition of Dynamite called Big Business, where the show saw the debut of Mercedes Mone, also known as Sasha Banks in WWE. The show was particularly special due to Mone’s debut in her hometown of Boston.
Reports have emerged that following the match, MJF had a meeting with AEW backstage officials. However, it’s important to note that he was not present backstage for the show.
With the recent comments from Tony Khan, it is unknown when MJF will return to the promotion. He is also rehabbing from injuries he suffered during his world title reign.
