A new Scary Movie is officially in the works from Paramount and Miramax, the company announced on Thursday.
During their presentation at the ongoing CinemaCon this week (via THR), Paramount confirmed that a new entry in the Scary Movie franchise was in development from Fast and Furious producer Neal H. Moritz.
As of now, there’s no word on whether or not the movie will see any cast members from the original set of movies reprising their roles. Four of the original five Scary Movie films starred Anna Faris and Regina Hall, with Marlon and Shawn Wayans also appearing in two of the five.
Scary Movie has been dormant for more than a decade
The first Scary Movie premiered in 2000, and was a slasher parody film that spoofed a variety of films, including Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The franchise quickly grew, with a sequel in 2001, a third film in 2003, a fourth in 2006, and finally a fifth in 2013, which featured a mostly new cast.
The Scary Movie franchise was wildly successful during its initial run, earning more than $890 million in total at the worldwide box office. The success of the films also kickstarted a large wave of parody films mocking other genres, with films like Superhero Movie, Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, and more.
