Dune 2: Why Was Tim Blake Nelson Cut From Part Two?

After learning that Tim Blake Nelson was part of Dune: Part Two but did not make it into the final version of the film, fans are wondering why he was cut. Here is all you need to know.

Why was Tim Blake Nelson cut from Dune: Part Two?

According to Tim Blake Nelson, his scene was cut from Dune: Part Two because Denis Villeneuve thought that the movie was too long with it.

Speaking to the MovieWeb news outlet while promoting his new film, Asleep in My Palm, the Watchman star revealed why he was cut from Dune: Part Two, citing that director Denis Villeneuve thought that the presence of his scene made the movie too long. However, he did not specify which scene it was. He said:

“I don’t think I’m at liberty to say what the scene was. I’d leave that to Denis [Villeneuve] if he wants to talk about it. I had a great time over there shooting it. And then he had to cut it because he thought the movie was too long. And I am heartbroken over that, but there’s no hard feelings. I loved it, and I can’t wait to do something else with him and we certainly plan to do that.”

Nelson is not the only actor to have his scene cut from the film. Stephen McKinley Henderson’s scenes as Thufir Hawat were also cut.

While Denis Villeneuve did not publicly address why Tim Blake Nelson’s scene was cut from Dune: Part Two, he did address Henderson being cut, citing that cutting him out of the movie was one of the most painful choices he had to make while directing the film in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
