What is Road House about?
“In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems,” the movie’s synopsis reads.
Road House is a remake of the 1989 action movie of the same name. The original version was directed by Rowdy Herrington and starred Patrick Swayze as James Dalton, while Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliot, Ben Gazzara, and Kevin Tighe also played supporting roles.
The remake is directed by Doug Liman, who is known for making 1996’s Swingers, 2002’s The Bourne Identity, 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow, and 2021’s Chaos Walking, among other titles.
The screenplay was written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry, while Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Darren Barnet, Conor McGregor, J. D. Pardo, Arturo Castro, Lukas Gage, Travis Van Winkle, B. K. Cannon, Beau Knapp, and more also star in the film.
Road House releases on Prime Video on March 21, 2024.
Liman has vocally been against Road House’s straight-to-streaming release. He released a statement to Deadline in January 2024 saying, “Contrary to their public statements, Amazon has no interest in supporting cinemas. “Amazon will exclusively stream Road House on Amazon’s Prime. Amazon asked me and the film community to trust them and their public statements about supporting cinemas, and then they turned around and are using Road House to sell plumbing fixtures.”
