The Grammys 2024 turned out to be an eventful night featuring the epic Jay-Z speech about Beyoncé, Taylor Swift’s wins, and many other highlights. But fans who didn’t get to tune in or missed out on Jay-Z’s speech wish to know what he said about Beyoncé. So, here’s all the necessary information.
What did Jay-Z say about Beyoncé in his speech at the Grammys 2024?
In his acceptance speech at the Grammys, Jay-Z criticized the awards for all the snubs including the fact that his wife has never won Album of the Year.
The 54-year-old rapper accepted the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the Grammys. However, during his speech, he questioned the process behind the voting at the awards. He pointed out the inconsistencies that have occurred when it comes to awarding artists of color, using the example of his wife. Here’s what he said:
“We want y’all to get it right. At least getting close to right. And obviously, it’s subjective. Y’all don’t gotta clap at everything. Obviously, it’s subjective because, you know, it’s music and it’s opinion-based.”
The hip-hop artist continued to talk about Beyoncé by saying:
“But, you know, some things — I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys — never won album of the year. That doesn’t work.”
While he didn’t name the “young lady”, it was implied that he was talking about his wife. After all, she had been nominated for Album of the Year four times but had never won it despite having the most number of Grammys in total.
How many Grammys has Beyoncé won until 2024?
Beyoncé holds the record of winning the most Grammys with 32 awards and counting.
Beyoncé showed up to the Grammys 2024 in a glorious cowboy outfit. Despite having no nominations this year, she still holds the record of being nominated for the most Grammys, having added 9 noms to her total of 88 in 2023.
The last year’s event also saw her surpassing the previous record holder for most wins, Georg Solti. He died in 1991 after bagging 31 Grammys, and Beyoncé went one step ahead by winning her 32nd Grammy award in 2023. It’ll be interesting to see if she’d be able to add Album of the Year to her list in 2025.
