AEW World Champion MJF has spilled the beans on his recent encounter with WWE Superstar John Cena. At the star-studded premiere of “The Iron Claw” in Los Angeles last week, the film, which explores the captivating story of the Von Erich family, held special significance for MJF. He served as an executive producer, with Zack Efron playing the main lead.
Fans were left buzzing with excitement when MJF shared a snapshot featuring himself and John Cena on the red carpet. A video went viral among fans, shared by Chris Van Vliet, which shows both Cena and MJF exchanging some words with each other after taking a photo.
During an interview with the SI Media Podcast, MJF discussed the encounter and revealed details about what was said between him and Cena.
“We’re two guys that are both massive fans of each other’s work. He loves what I’m doing in AEW, I obviously love everything that he’s done in professional wrestling as a whole. He’s easily a first-ballot Hall of Famer and I literally am a Hall of Famer, but I believe that I am also soon to be a first-ballot professional wrestling hall of famer as well. We exchanged pleasantries and we talked and discussed about how we’re fans of each other’s work.
“I told him straight-up, I find him to be an absolute inspiration, what he’s been able to do with Make-A-Wish, with all these kids, and also what he’s been able to do completely transcend outside of the professional wrestling sport and landscape is something that I’ve begun to do as well. I’m really proud of that, and I don’t think I’d be able to do that without following the footsteps of these major giants of professional wrestling history, like him, like Batista, like The Rock. If not for these guys, they wouldn’t take me seriously as an actor.”
In the same interview, MJF also delved into various topics, including the status of his AEW contract, discussions with Cody Rhodes, and encounters with strange fans.
What’s next for John Cena and MJF?
Cena’s last match against Solo Sikoa at Crown Jewel ended in a defeat, leading to retirement speculations as he hasn’t secured a singles victory since 2018.
Meanwhile, MJF juggles multiple AEW feuds, defending his World Championship against Samoa Joe in Worlds End and facing a challenge from Wardlow. The ongoing Devil storyline continues to cause chaos in the AEW locker room by targeting various stars.
In the recent AEW Dynamite, the Devil challenged MJF for his ROH tag team championship, and Samoa Joe agreed to be his tag team partner.
