DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has spoken a bit about his thoughts on Superman’s many costumes after receiving fan requests for his version in Superman: Legacy.
Oh his Threads account, Gunn was asked by a fan to not have trunks on the outside of Superman’s costume in his upcoming movie. This prompted the filmmaker to discuss how passionate fans seem to be about having or getting rid of the trunks.
“You wouldn’t believe the amount of pleading and upset I get based around trunks or no trunks,” Gunn stated. “To me, not the most important aspect of Superman or his story. But so many strong feelings!”
He then delved further into his thoughts on Superman’s costume and its many variations, noting that he feels almost all costumes are valid.
“This might be an extreme point of view,” he explained. “The costume has changed in many, many ways throughout the years. They are all (or mostly all) valid versions of Superman, with or without trunks, with or without yellow S on cape. with or without black around the S, with or without mullet, and on and on and on.”
