The upcoming The Marvels will introduce a new MCU villain in Dar-Benn, who promises to be a thorn in the side of Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan. But who is Dar-Benn, the villain portrayed by Zawe Ashton? And what are her powers? Here’s what you need to know.
Who is Dar-Benn in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Dar-Benn is an MCU villain who will debut in The Marvels.
There isn’t much information on this version of Dar-Benn since The Marvels will be the character’s first MCU appearance. The villain has undergone a significant gender-swapped transformation from the original comic book character. Created by Ron Marz and Ron Lim, Dar-Benn was originally a male member of the Kree Empire and appeared in Silver Surfer #53 in 1991.
In the comics, Dar-Benn and his ally Ael-Dan opposed the rule of their inept leader, Clumsy Foulup, and conspired to assassinate him. Dar-Benn became a ruthless ruler, advocating for eradicating the old regime. However, his plans were foiled when he clashed with the Shi’ar leader Deathbird, who killed Ael-Dann and later Dar-Benn, taking control of the Kree territories.
What are Dar-Benn’s powers?
Dar-Benn wields a hammer and possesses energy-based abilities.
The recently released The Marvels trailer offered a closer look at Dar-Benn, but the full range of her powers is still shrouded in mystery. She wields a hammer similar to that of Ronan the Accuser, and apparently, she possesses energy-based abilities. She seeks revenge against Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) for her role in destabilizing the Kree Empire.
The comic-book version of Dar-Benn is a strategic mastermind skilled in combat and wields formidable weapons.
The Marvels will soar into theaters on November 10, 2023.
