Jeremiah’s sexuality is one of the biggest topics that The Summer I Turned Pretty fans seem to be discussing. While TSITP books make it clear, the TV show isn’t quite so obvious. Here’s the need-to-know info about Jeremiah and whether he’s gay, bi, or straight.
Is Jeremiah gay, bi, or straight in The Summer I Turned Pretty TV series?
Jeremiah is bi in The Summer I Turned Pretty TV series, seasons 1 and 2. He has relationships with both men and women.
According to author Jenny Han, Jeremiah is “sexually fluid” and “is a young person who’s figuring out where he falls in all that and hasn’t experienced a lot of love yet.” (via TV Line)
Is Jeremiah gay, bi, or straight in The Summer I Turned Pretty books?
Jeremiah is straight in The Summer I Turned Pretty books.
In the books, Jeremiah only has relationships with women and his attention is more focused on Belly.
In the same interview with TV Line, author Jenny Han explained that, if she were to write the books today, she “may have made the choice [to make Jeremiah bisexual] because he’s always been a character, to [her], that is really at ease with himself, really comfortable in his own skin, and open-minded, and open to exploration.”
Fans may therefore take Han’s comments to mean that, in TSITP universe, the most canonically correct version of Jeremiah is bisexual and interested in both men and women.
Most fans will be happy to accept that Jeremiah is bisexual, which overwrites his sexuality in the books. Those unhappy by this development may want to treat the book as the “proper story” with the TV show being a “spin-off” take.
