With the latest Transformers installment speeding into theaters, fans wonder whether they’ll see Megatron in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. It’s been a while since the charismatic villain has clashed with the Autobots. Is the leader of the Decepticons back? If not, who’s the villain in Transformers 7?
Does Megatron appear in Transformers 7?
Megatron doesn’t appear in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
Nor does the story reference the Decepticons’ leader at all. Provided that Rise of the Beasts takes place in the same timeline as the first Transformers movies, it makes sense that Megatron isn’t part of the story. While the continuity might not be so clear across all films, Megatron is still supposed to be frozen since Captain Archibald Witwicky discovered him in the Arctic Circle during the events of Rise of the Beasts, which is set in 1994. Megatron first appears after Frenzy saves him from his cryo-stasis status in 2007.
While, apparently, Megatron might not be part of the live-action adaptation of the Beast Wars animated series, there are several ways to bring the villain back and respect the Transformers live-action movie series continuity. After all, he is a big part of animated series that premiered in 1996. Megatron’s return is up to speculation, but producers might not want to leave out one of the most iconic Transformers characters in the new trilogy.
Who’s the villain in Rise of the Beasts?
Scourge and Unicron are the main villains in Rise of the Beasts.
The story follows Scourge’s clash with the Autobots as the leader of the Terrorcons attempts to retrieve the Transwarp Key. Surely, Scourge is just following the orders of Unicron, and fans get to see how evil the planet-eating creature can be. In the opening moments, Unicron destroys the homeworld of the Maximals, who barely make it to hide the Transwarp Key. Also, Unicron is pretty harsh with his henchmen and doesn’t hesitate to torture them.
