With Fast X now in theatres, many are wondering “When will the Fast and Furious franchise end?” As teased, Fast X is just the first installment of a larger storyline covering at least one more film. While some fans wonder when Dom and the others will drive into the sunset and the Fast and Furious franchise end, that doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon. Here’s the information about the Fast and Furious franchise’s future.
When will the Fast and Furious movies end and stop?
There is no set date for when the Fast and Furious movies will end. For now, they will continue.
Fast X ends with a cliffhanger that leaves the fate of Dom and the others upended due to Dante Reyes’ (Jason Momoa) madness. The protagonists will have to come back with a plan in Fast 11, but Reyes won’t be the last enemy they face. According to actor and producer Diesel’s recent interviews, the franchise might soon welcome a 12th installment in the main series.
In addition to the Fast and Furious main movies, there have been some attempts to enrich the lore of the street racing franchise. In 2019, the David Leitch-directed Hobbs & Shaw spin-off explored the adventures of Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). The movie had a very positive reaction from the public, and producers quickly announced a sequel. Still, plans have changed since, and producer Kelly McCormick didn’t seem so sure about the film in recent interviews.
There is also an upcoming untitled female-led spin-off whose story is currently penned by Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. The movie was first announced in 2019 after Michelle Rodriguez complained the franchise didn’t give female characters enough love. Unfortunately, there are no updates on this project either, but with all the iconic female protagonists in Fast and Furious, it seems like a matter of time.
The franchise also includes an animated series titled Fast & Furious Spy Racers that follows the adventures of Tony Toretto, Dom’s young cousin. The show ran for six seasons and officially ended on December 17, 2021. However, producers might add more animated and live-action television series to the franchise, although there is currently no news about it.
