O’Dessa: Sadie Sink to Lead Searchlight’s Rock Opera Movie

According to Deadline, Stranger Things breakout Sadie Sink has signed on for the leading role in Searchlight Pictures’ post-apocalyptic rock opera film titled O’Dessa. This marks Sink’s latest movie project after receiving acclaim for her performance in Darren Aronofsky’s A24 drama The Whale.

O’Dessa will be written and directed by Geremy Jasper (Patti Cake$). It will also feature original songs produced by Jasper and Jason Binnick. Production is expected to begin this May in Croatia.

“We are so excited to be collaborating with Geremy again,” Searchlight presidents Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum said in a statement. “With O’dessa, he brings extraordinary and visceral energy to a whole new cinematic landscape.”

The film will take place in a post-apocalyptic future and will center around a farm girl, as she embarks on an “epic quest to recover a cherished family heirloom. Her journey leads her to a strange and dangerous city where she meets her one true love – but in order to save his soul, she must put the power of destiny and song to the ultimate test.”

O’Dessa will be produced by Michael Gottwald, Noah Stahl, and Rodrigo Teixeira, with Taylor Friedman and Cornelia Burleigh overseeing the project for Searchlight. Executive producers are Jonathan Montepare, Dan Janvey, and Lourenço Sant’Anna.
