Following his split with long-time partner and collaborator Roberto Orci, filmmaker Alex Kurtzman continues to branch out on his own with the newly-formed production company, Secret Hideout. It has just signed a three-year deal with Universal Pictures, who will be releasing Kurtzman’s reimagining of The Mummy, which he will also direct.
That movie, slated for June 24, 2016 is meant to be the first of a series of movies intended to relaunch Universal’s classic monster movies that Kurtzman is developing alongside “Fast and Furious” writer Chris Morgan.
Kurtzman is also developing a movie based on the children’s fantasy adventure book series “Dragonology” for Universal.
Kurtzman will be joined at Secret Hideout by producers Jeb Brody, currently President of Production at Focus Features, and Bobby Cohen, the current President of Kurtzman and Orci’s production company K/O Paper Products, having produced Now You See Me, Cowboys & Aliens and Kurtman’s People Like Us. K/O Paper Products’ development executive Kim Rosen will also be joining the new company as its head of digital and interactive.
Secret Hideout will retain Kurtman’s current offices as well as expand into offices at Universal.
Kurtzman continues working alongside Orci as a producer for the sequel to Now You See Me for Lionsgate and on a movie (or series of movies) based on Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s “Locke & Key” graphic novels, as well as an adaptation of Anne Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles,” the latter two for Universal.
