Phil Lord and Chris Miller may be the hottest directing duo around right now following a string of back-to-back hits that makes it hard to believe it was less than five years ago when the TV writers first came to attention with their adaptation of Sony’s animated version of the children’s book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, making them an even odder choice to follow that up by directing the R-rated action-comedy 21 Jump Street a few years later.
While they were developing sequels to both movies, they were at the same time making a little thing called The LEGO Movie, a movie that probably received more advance scorn than any other animated movie in recent memory until the trailers started showing up and people started realizing what an awesome movie it was going to be.
After a few months off, Lord and Miller are back with their second sequel, 22 Jump Street, which once again puts Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in the roles of undercover cops infiltrating a drug ring, this time at college.
ComingSoon.net had another opportunity to talk to the very funny creative partners recently, talking about jumping into a sequel so quickly after the success of 21 Jump Street, where they get their seemingly endless stream of jokes from and their plans for the future. (Hint: They probably won’t be directing every single movie that the internet wants them to direct!)

22 Jump Street opens for previews on Thursday night, June 12, and then everywhere on Friday, June 13. You can check out our interview with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill here.
