Showtime has officially renewed Emmy winner and series creator Lena Waithe’s hit drama series The Chi for a fifth season, which is slated to debut in 2022. The renewal comes after the series had just aired its fourth season finale last night. The latest season is currently on pace to become the most-streamed Showtime series ever, with an average of 4.2 million weekly viewers.

The Chi is a timely coming-of-age story centering on a group of residents who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption. Season 4 spotlights the benefits and challenges of community policing on the South Side after Jake has a fateful run-in with a group of officers. Newlyweds Emmett and Tiff deal with the repercussions of his affair with Dom by exploring open marriage. Kiesha grapples with her pregnancy, while Jada bravely faces a health crisis. The relationship between Kevin and Jemma takes a turn, and Papa launches a new podcast venture. New mayor Douda harnesses his newfound power while navigating his complicated relationship with his wife Roselyn. Meanwhile, Trig and Imani are on a personal mission to help their community.
The series currently stars Michael V. Epps, Birgundi Baker, Shamon Brown Jr., Curtiss Cook, Luke James, Jacob Latimore, Alex Hibbert, and Yolonda Ross. Season 4 features guest-stars including Tabitha Brown, Jason Weaver, Vic Mensa, Tai Davis, Da Brat, Tyla Abercrumbie, Miriam A. Hyman, Hannaha Hall, La La Anthony, Jasmine Davis, Kandi Burruss, and Judae’a Brown.
